Safe operation of the oil and petroleum products trunk pipeline transportation system is the most important mission of Transneft Group, conducted to preclude the inadmissible risk of causing harm to human health, property, and environment.

In order to ensure the safe and accident-free operation of pipelines, the Company continuously monitors their technical condition and, through the implementation of development programmes, performs works to maintain an adequate technical level of the operated equipment and systems ensuring the transportation of oil and petroleum products in compliance with established safety standards.

A set of measures taken by the Company allowed it to achieve the specific accident rate indicator at trunk pipeline transport facilities below the maximum admissible levels.

In order to comply with industrial safety legislation and to ensure readiness to contain and eliminate the consequences of accidents, Transneft Group has established and operates the Transneft Emergency Prevention and Response System.

The Company have created central maintenance divisions, emergency line maintenance divisions, emergency rescue teams based on specialised directorates for emergency prevention and response to accidents at oil trunk pipelines in order to perform the containment of a possible emergency spills in keeping with the Russian legislation, with due regard for the split of work in accordance with the existing distribution of squads among the trunk pipeline transport facilities and transport logistics.
