The effective management of water resources is part of the Transneft Environmental Policy.

Water intake from surface and underground sources is carried out exclusively as part of the current legislation on the basis of water use agreements and licenses to use subsurface resources.

The water intake does not have any substantial environmental impact.

Regions of Transneft’s operational activity are not classified among the water-scarce regions.

In pursuance of Federal Law No. 7-FZ On Natural Environment Protection and Water Code of the Russian Federation No. 74-FZ, a range of water protection measures is taken to ensure the standard level of wastewater treatment.

To increase the efficiency of wastewater treatment, Transneft has unified its treatment plants by typical sizes and developed standard design solutions for treatment plants of various productivity.
Transneft Siberia's Tyumen Machinery and Repair Plant has launched an in-house manufacture of wastewater treatment plants.

The company applies modern technologies of effluent treatment, including a membrane bioreactor and a bioreactor with a moveable layer - "biochips" - which increased operational reliability in conditions of fluctuations in the flow rate and wastewater composition, raised the resistance of activated sludge to higher concentrations of pollutants and temperature drops in effluents.

As a result of the water protection measures taken, a discharge of inadequately treated effluents into a water body has been totally excluded.

In accordance with the requirements of environmental legislation governing wastewater discharge, the Company carries out industrial monitoring of wastewater treatment quality.

The results of monitoring confirm the normative level of wastewater treatment quality.
